Pets & Socializing Vocabulary

• Heading to: (Verb Phrase) A very common, casual way to say "going to" a place.

• New member of the family: (Expression) A sweet way to describe a new pet or a new baby in the house.

• Playful: (Adjective) Full of energy; wanting to play and run around (usually used for puppies or kids).

• Backyard: (Noun) The private grassy area or garden behind a house.

• In around noon: (Time Expression) This means approximately 12:00 PM.

• Slice: (Noun) A single piece of a whole pizza.

• Around the corner: (Idiom) Very close by; usually just a short walk away on the next street.

• Yummy: (Adjective) A casual, slightly "cute" way to say delicious. It is very common in North American English.

• Anyway: (Transition Word) Used to change the subject or to end a conversation and move on to the next task.

• Hehehe: (Onomatopoeia) This represents a light, quiet laugh or a giggle in text/speech.

• I won't: (Contraction) Short for "I will not." Here, it means "I will not forget."

Speaker 1: Good morning. How is your day going?

Speaker 2: Hello. It is going well. The weather is very nice today.

Speaker 1: Yes, it is a beautiful morning. I am heading to the park with my new puppy.

Speaker 2: It's so cute. What’s its name? 

Speaker 1: Her name is Kira, the new member of the family.

Speaker 2: I love animals. I have a small white cat at home named Logan. He sleeps on the sofa all day.

Speaker 1: My puppy is actually very playful; she can run and play around in the backyard or the park for hours.

Speaker 2: I need to buy some food for my cat and then have lunch. Do you want to come with me?

Speaker 1: I can’t go right now. I am meeting my brother at the park very soon, at around noon.

Speaker 2: I understand. I am a little hungry. I think I'll go for my lunch first, and then I'll have some humm pizza, I think.

Speaker 1: Pizza is delicious. I had a slice around the corner a few minutes ago. Their chicken and mushroom pizza is so yummy. 

Speaker 2: Nice, I think I'll try that one. Anyway, I'll go for my lunch now. Have a nice day!

Speaker 1: Goodbye. See you later!  Don't forget your cat food!

Speaker 2: hehehe. I won't… later.
