Todd: Okay, Katie, let's talk about your family.
Katie: Sure.
Todd: In your family, who gets up early?
Katie: My mom gets up early every day.
Todd: What time does she get up?
Katie: My mom gets up at 4:00 AM in the morning.
Todd: What?
Katie: Yes.
Todd: That's crazy.
Katie: But she also goes to bed very early.
Todd: What time?
Katie: She goes to bed at 7:00.
Todd: Wow, at 7:00?
Katie: At 7:00 every day.
Todd: Is everyone quiet in the family?
Katie: Oh, no. No, no, no.
Todd: Wow, that's amazing. Okay, so who stays up late?
Katie: Probably, me and my brother. We always stay up late.
Todd: Yeah? How late?
Katie: Well, when we were younger, we stayed up until 11:00. Which when you're a five or six-year-old, that's very late.
Todd: That is very late. Wow. What about TV? Who watches a lot of TV?
Katie: My dad. My dad watches a lot of TV.
Todd: Oh yeah, what does he watch?
Katie: He watches sports TV programs. He watches comedy programs. He watches everything.
Todd: Okay, yeah. Sounds like my dad. Now my dad falls asleep in front of the TV a lot.
Katie: Mine too.
Todd: Really?
Katie: Yeah.
Todd: Yeah. Okay, who cleans the house?
Katie: Sometimes, me and my brother will help clean the house. But mostly, it's my mom.
Todd: Oh right. Same. I think it's the same in everybody's house.
Katie: I think so too.
Todd: I know, poor mom.
Katie: Yeah.
Todd: Well, similarly, who cooks for the family? I bet it's your mom.
Katie: Nope. Actually, it's my dad.
Todd: Really? Oh great.
Katie: My dad is a chef.
Todd: Oh nice.
Katie: So he is very good at cooking meals.
Todd: Oh, what does he cook?
Katie: Lots and lots of stuff. Lots of British food, such as roast beef or fish and chips. Lots of British food.
Todd: I lived in England for one year. And I love Sunday roast.
Katie: Oh, me too.
Todd: It's so good.
Katie: I wish it was Sunday roast every day.
Todd: I know. Okay, in your family, who does the shopping?
Katie: Who do you think does the shopping in my family?
Todd: Your mother.
Katie: Of course. Yeah.
Todd: Oh wow.
Katie: I don't think my mother would be happy if my dad did the shopping.
Todd: Why?
Katie: My dad buys too many silly things that we don't need.
Todd: Ah, okay, I gotcha. All right, who makes you laugh?
Katie: Definitely, my dad makes me laugh.
Todd: Oh yeah, how?
Katie: My dad makes me laugh a lot. His sense of humor is very different from mine, so when he says a joke and nobody laughs, that makes me laugh.
Todd: Oh, right, yeah, that's funny. So sometimes, we argue with people. Who argues with you sometimes?
Katie: Not sometimes. All the time, I argue with my brother.
Todd: Oh really?
Katie: Yes.
Todd: What do you argue about?
Katie: Everything. Everything. We're very different people.
Todd: Okay, for example?
Katie: Can be even small things like the color T-shirt that someone is wearing, we will argue about it.
Todd: Right. That sounds like my sisters. So I have two older sisters, I never fight with either sister. Never. But my sisters fight all the time. Yeah. They love fighting.
Katie: I love fighting my brother.
Todd: Okay, so in your family, who helps you out a lot?
Katie: I hope that we help each other out a lot. I don't think one person helps a lot of people. We all help each other.
Todd: Oh, wow, that sounds great. Thanks, Katie.
Katie: Thanks.

Todd: Yeah? What fruits do you like?
Meg: I love bananas because they're so healthy for you. And so usually, in the morning for breakfast, I'll have a banana. I also love blueberries. Blueberries are my favorite fruit. But sometimes, they're expensive so I can't often eat blueberries.
Todd: Oh, I agree. Blueberries are so good. I love blueberries in oatmeal.
Meg: That's a good idea. I love to have blueberries in muffins.
Todd: Oh, that's nice. Well, you bake. Do you bake blueberry muffins?
Meg: I do bake blueberry muffins, and also blueberry bread, blueberry pancakes, many blueberry things.
Todd: Wow. That's great. So are there any fruits you don't like?
Meg: I don't like kiwi actually because the flavor is okay but the fruit is too soft. So usually, I don't want to eat kiwi.

Todd: Oh great. I love vegetable sticks, so I love carrot sticks, cucumber sticks, and radish sticks. It's very good.
Meg: Do you like to dip vegetable sticks into any dressing?
Todd: I do but it's not healthy, right?
Meg: No.
Todd: But yeah, I love the dressing like the ranch dressing with carrot sticks or the ranch dressing with cucumber sticks. It's very nice.
Meg: Yeah. It's pretty delicious. But you're right. Not so healthy.
Todd: No. So what vegetables do you cook?
Meg: Sometimes I cook broccoli. I actually like to roast broccoli, which is when you put broccoli into the oven and cook it for a few minutes. So it's really delicious. You can add some salt or seasonings and it's easy to make. You can cook some meat or rice while the broccoli is in the oven and then it's ready for your dinner.
Todd: That's great. Yeah. You see some vegetables like on a kebab that are roasted. I guess onions are roasted, peppers are roasted.
Meg: Right, right.
Todd: Do you roast other vegetables besides broccoli?
Meg: Sometimes tomatoes, and sometimes potatoes although, it's that a vegetable?
Todd: It is, but it's not a very healthy vegetable.
Meg: So maybe I shouldn't eat potatoes.
Todd: I love potatoes though. So you roast vegetables, do you cook vegetables any other way? Do you boil vegetables or fry vegetables?
Meg: Sometimes I boil vegetables. For example, I like to boil carrots because they're soft and you can add some spices again to have some flavor when you eat carrots with your meal.
Todd: Yeah. Actually, I love carrots but I only like raw carrots.
Meg: Oh really?
Todd: And I hate cooked carrots.
Meg: Oh well, I'll try to remember that if ever you come over for dinner.

John: Wow. That sounds really fun.
Sarah: Yeah. It's a really nice city. It's also really safe. There are lots of nice people there.
John: Good. Is there much to do at night?
Sarah: Well, maybe, maybe not. There's not many things to do at night. There aren't any nightclubs. There aren't many bars. So actually, maybe there isn't much night life.

But during the daytime, you can go to the park. There's a river that goes through the town. So in the middle of town, there's a river. And there's a park that goes along both sides of the river. And at the park, there is a tennis court and a disc golf course.
Sarah: Disc golf?
John: Yeah. I like to play disc golf with my friends. It's really fun. And after we finish playing disc golf, we usually go to the pizza restaurant.
Sarah: Oh, I see. How about schools? Are there very many schools?
John: Let's see. No, there aren't very many. There is only one elementary school, one junior high school and one high school. That's it.
Sarah: Interesting.
John: Yeah. There aren't very many schools but the town doesn't need more schools because there aren't very many people there.
Sarah: I see. Are there any mountains?
John: No. The whole area is very flat. There are no mountains but there are a lot of trees. In fact, there are trees on my town's sign because my town is famous for all the trees on every street.

Shantel: Let's see. After I eat breakfast, I clean the kitchen and make my bed. What about you?
Todd: I also clean my house. I clean my rooms. I vacuum. I wash the windows. I wash the dishes. I do my laundry. I do that on Saturday, but on Sunday, I have fun.
Shantel: What do you do for fun?
Todd: I go to the park. I play sports. I play soccer at the park. Sometimes, I ride my bike. Sometimes, I go hiking. I do lots on Sunday. On Sunday, I relax. I don't study. I don't work, and I don't clean my house.
Shantel: Nice.
Todd: What do you do on Sunday?
Shantel: I also enjoy my time on Sunday. I really like to meet my friends and, sometimes, we go to festivals or visit new cities, and we eat a lot of really good food.
Todd: Oh, that sounds fun.
Shantel: Actually, we also really enjoy camping. Do you like camping?
Todd: I love camping. I love the outdoors. I go hiking often.
Shantel: Oh, me, too.
Todd: Oh, that's cool. What about Sunday evening?
Shantel: Oh, Sunday evening, I relax. I cook a big dinner, and I listen to music, and, sometimes, I read my book, but, often, I go to sleep very early on Sunday.
Todd: Oh, wow.
Shantel: And you?
Todd: Well, on Sunday, I don't cook. I usually order food. I order pizza or maybe I eat at a restaurant, and then, later in the evening, on Sunday, I always watch TV. My favorite TV show is on Sunday night.
Shantel: What's your favorite TV show?
Todd: My favorite TV show is called Billions.
Shantel: Billions?
Todd: Yeah. It's about money and power in New York. It's very interesting.
Shantel: Nice. Maybe I should watch it.
Todd: Oh, you should, but you go to bed early.
Shantel: Yes, around nine o'clock.
Todd: Oh, okay, maybe you can see it.

Todd: Yes. I see them often. I see them usually once a year, but I write to them often, and I call them sometimes.
Shantel: Okay. And when you see them, do you go to the United States to visit them, or do they come to Japan?
Todd: I go to America, and then everyone goes to my mom's house, and everybody meets me at my mom's house, which is nice. I see my sister, and we talk a lot, and it's good.
Shantel: Does your mother miss you?
Todd: Yes. She misses me and I miss her a lot, so it's very nice to see her, and also, I miss my dad. I miss him a lot, so I'm always happy to see him.
Shantel: Nice. What about your sister? When you're in the United States, do you have some activities you like to do together?
Todd: Yeah, sometimes we do stuff together. Maybe I will meet her at a café, or I will go shopping with her, so we do something fun each time I go back.
Shantel: Nice.

Shantel: Well, since I live in Japan, I also call them and write them, but usually, we only Skype about once a month.
Todd: Oh. So, who do you Skype with the most, your mom or your dad?
Shantel: I Skype the most with my father, because he wakes up very early, so his time and his schedule match my schedule, so it is easy for us to Skype.
Todd: Do you call him or does he call you?
Shantel: I usually call him, but sometimes he calls me. Usually, if he calls me, it's because I haven't called in a long time.
Todd: Uh-oh.
Shantel: Mm-hmm (affirmative).
Todd: So sometimes, you make him mad.
Shantel: A little angry.
Todd: Right. That's nice.
Shantel: But-
Todd: You have a brother too, right?
Shantel: I do have a brother, and I call him less frequently, because he is so busy with his job, so we speak about once or twice a month, by messages or by phone.
Todd: Oh, that's nice. Do you follow your family on social media?
Shantel: Yes. I use Facebook.
Todd: Oh, I use it too.
Shantel: It is a really easy way to keep in contact with them.
Todd: Yeah, I agree. What about other social media? Do you use Twitter?
Shantel: No. I don't use Twitter, and I don't use other social media either, only Facebook.
Todd: Ah, that's good, I think. Too much is too bad.
Shantel: I agree, but I do love Facebook, because I can speak with my brother, and my mother, and my father anytime.
Todd: So, with Facebook, do you check it every day?
Shantel: I do check it every day. Maybe it's a bad habit, but I do like to check it every day. Do you check your Facebook every day?
Todd: Not every day. I check it maybe three times a week.
Shantel: hree times a week?
Todd: Yeah, I don't use it much, and I don't use it on my phone.
Shantel: Oh. That's a good idea.
Todd: Yeah. I like my free time.
Shantel: Do you use other social media, such as Twitter or Instagram?
Todd: I do use Twitter, but I don't use it on my phone. I only use it on the computer.
Shantel: Okay. What about Instagram?
Todd: Oh, I don't use it at all. Do you use it?
Shantel: No, I don't use it.
Todd: Oh, that's right. You only use Facebook.
Shantel: I only use Facebook.
Todd: Oh, interesting. Well, that's nice that we can talk to our family on Skype and Facebook because Japan is so far from America.

Natalie: Oh, hey Todd. Thank you.
Todd: So, that shirt looks expensive. Did it cost a lot?
Natalie: Oh, this one? Yeah. It was about $50.
Todd: $50? That's a lot.
Natalie: I know. It's an American brand.
Todd: Ah. Do they have that shirt in different colors?
Natalie: Yes, so I actually have this top in six colors.
Todd: Really? What colors?
Natalie: I have it in purple, blue, red, gray, white, and black. Actually, I have two black ones, so that's seven.
Todd: You have two shirts in black? Why?
Natalie: Well, black is such a good color to wear. It matches everything.
Todd: Yeah. So true, so true. What about your pants? Those pants are pretty cool too.
Natalie: Oh, these? Yeah. These were much cheaper than the tops. I bought these in San Francisco. They cost about $40.
Todd: Ooh. Those are cheap. That's a good price.
Natalie: It is, and I only have one pair of these.
Todd: And your shoes? Did you buy those shoes in San Francisco too?
Natalie: No, I didn't buy these in San Francisco. These, I bought online.
Todd: You bought them online?
Natalie: Yes. These sandals are really hard to find, so I had to buy them through Amazon.
Todd: Oh, I like Amazon. I buy lots of things on Amazon. For example, I bought this watch on Amazon.
Natalie: How much did it cost?
Todd: Well, this watch was really cheap. This watch only cost about $20.
Natalie: Whoa.
Todd: Yeah, but I have two watches, and I also bought a nice, gold watch on Amazon. That watch was very expensive. It cost $200.
Natalie: Whoa, $200 on a watch? I think my watch only cost maybe $70, but I really like this watch. It's an Apple Watch. I bought it in Malaysia. I've had it for about two years now, but I think now that I have an Apple Watch, I'll always have Apple Watches.
Todd: Yeah, that is a nice watch. I want an Apple Watch too.
Natalie: Yeah, they're so cool. I spend so much time on my phone, and the watch works really well with my phone. I definitely recommend it.
Todd: Yeah, I like this cheap watch, because if it rains, or if I play sports, or if I am traveling, I can take my cheap watch, because this watch is not important. I can break it. I can lose it. I can do anything. But my gold watch, that watch is expensive, so I keep it at home. I only wear it on nice occasions.
Natalie: Oh, well it's nice to have something a little more expensive, but my watch can tell me what the weather's like, my watch can tell me how many calories I've burned, and my watch can tell me what the time is anywhere in the world.
Todd: You know, I think I need to get a watch like that.
Natalie: This is the greatest watch.

Todd: So Meg, we are talking about clothes, and you always look nice at work. You have a very nice fashion sense.
Meg: Oh, thank you.
Todd: So you must go shopping a lot.
Meg: I do go shopping sometimes. It's fun to go shopping and buy new clothes especially when it's a new season.
Todd: Like what do you like to wear per season? For example, what do you like to wear in winter?
Meg: In the winter, it's pretty cold, so I like to wear sweaters. Sometimes, a t-shirt with a sweater over it to stay warm. Lots of long-sleeve shirts. I like to wear long-sleeve shirts, and I still wear skirts in the winter, so sometimes, I wear tights underneath the skirts to stay warm.
Todd: What about dresses? Do you like to wear dresses?
Meg: I do like to wear dresses. In the winter, it's a good time actually to wear sweater-dresses. They're warm and a dress, so it's nice for work.
Todd: Sweater-dresses.
Meg: Have you seen a sweater-dress before?
Todd: I have no idea what a sweater-dress is. What is a sweater-dress?
Meg: It's a dress but made of sweater material.
Todd: Ah.
Meg: So sweater-cloth made into a dress. So it's very warm.
Todd: Okay. I was picturing a sweater with a skirt attached to it.
Meg: [Laughs] You might find that, but I think a sweater-dress is a little different.
Todd: Okay. What about… What about in the summer?
Meg: In the summer, I love to wear flip-flops. It's my favorite thing to wear. So I often wear flip-flops with jeans or shorts, skirts again. I don't wear tights in the summer because it's too hot.
Todd: Right. Do you wear flip-flops to work?
Meg: I can't wear flip-flops to work. So when I go to work, I often wear high heels or flats, some dress shoes.
Todd: Okay. So do you like to wear shorts or skirts. Which do you prefer?
Meg: I prefer shorts because it's more comfortable and easy to move around. But I also can't wear shorts to work. So I have many summer skirts for work.
Todd: Okay. Now, let's talk about shoes. So women often have many types of shoes, high heels, boots, flats, like you just said, sneakers. So what kind of shoes besides flip-flops do you like to wear?
Meg: I do have many pairs of shoes and so I like to wear flats and sandals especially in the summer. In the winter, I like to wear boots and rain shoes when it rains or rain boots. When I'm exercising, I like to wear sneakers or tennis shoes because it's good for your feet.
Todd: Oh right. Now you travel a lot, we both travel a lot. What shoes do you usually take when you travel?
Meg: When I travel, I usually take flats because they're easy to remove at the airport and they're light and convenient for traveling.
Todd: Oh, right.
Meg: What shoes do you usually use?
Todd: Just my sneakers. So my sneakers I wear everywhere. Now, women sometimes have accessories, you know, like earrings, necklaces, scarves, things like that. What do you like to wear?
Meg: I like to wear necklaces especially long necklaces. I don't like necklaces that are too short. It feels uncomfortable. I don't like to wear bracelets or a watch because I don't like anything on my wrist, but I do love to wear rings. I usually wear one ring each hand, just for fashion, not for anything special.

Todd: So, Meg, what do you like to do in your free time?
Meg: Actually, I love cooking. I like to try new dishes and I love baking as well.
Todd: Oh, nice. That's interesting. Because I hate cooking.
Meg: Oh, really?
Todd: Yeah. And I don't know anything about baking, but I like cleaning. Cleaning is relaxing.
Meg: Really? Is that true?
Todd: Yeah. Really, I like cleaning. So, my house is usually very clean.
Meg: My house is usually clean also, but I don't like cleaning very much.
Todd: Yeah, I think most people don't like cleaning. But some people think cleaning is relaxing. Like me.
Meg: That's true. What else do you like to do?
Todd: Well, I like exercising. I like going to the gym. I like listening to podcasts. So, I listen to a lot of podcasts a lot. I like surfing the internet. And sometimes, I enjoy reading books.
Meg: I also enjoy reading books when I have time.
Todd: But these days, I often listen to books instead. I listen to audio books.
Meg: Oh really?
Todd: Yeah, I like listening to audio books.
Meg: Why?
Todd: Because I can exercise at the same time.
Meg: So, exercising and reading at the same time.
Todd: Yeah, it's fun. So, I love jogging and I go jogging almost every day, usually for one hour. I listen to audio books when I jog.
Meg: So, you can do two things at once.
Todd: Very important. Multitasking. I love multitasking.
Meg: Sounds like you're good at multitasking.
Todd: Let's talk about outdoor activities. Do you like doing yard work?
Meg: I don't especially like doing yard work. But right now, I don't have a yard. So, doing yard work isn't something I have to worry about. What about you?
Todd: I like doing yard work. I think it's very relaxing. It's like cleaning. So, I enjoy it. But like you, I don't have a yard. So, now I don't do yard work very much. Or I can't do yard work.
Meg: So, you like gardening if you have a yard?
Todd: Yeah. I grew up on a big house. So, we have lots of yard work, lots of gardening. So, yeah.
Meg: Right.
Todd: But what about other things like hiking, do you like hiking?
Meg: I love hiking. Anything that is in nature, I love doing. I love hiking. I love kayaking. I love canoing. Any outdoor sports. Do you like hiking?
Todd: I do. I'm with you. I love hiking. What about things like rock climbing?
Meg: I have never been rock climbing. Have you gone rock climbing?
Todd: No. Rock climbing looks dangerous. So, I'm still scared.
Meg: Yeah,
Todd: So, I've never done rock climbing either. What about things like singing and dancing? Do you enjoy singing and dancing?
Meg: I enjoy singing, but I'm not very good at it. So, I like singing when I'm alone or in my car. Are you good at singing?
Todd: No, I'm terrible at singing. So, I hate singing. I really, really hate singing. But I like going to karaoke and listening to people sing.
Meg: Yeah, some people are really good at singing. What about dancing?
Todd: I hate dancing too. Yeah, I'm not good at dancing. So, dancing is very embarrassing for me. I don't like it.
Meg: I'm not good at dancing either.
Todd: Are there any other activities you really dislike doing? Like for me, I hate writing letters. For example, I don't like writing thank you letters. I don't like writing anything with my hand. Typing is okay. I don't mind typing things, but I hate writing.
Meg: So, using your hand to write, you hate writing?
Todd: Yeah, I like typing. Fingers is okay. Thumb is okay on the phone. I don't mind texting, I don't mind typing. I just don't like physically writing with a pencil or a pen.
Meg: Yeah. Pen or a pencil, like writing a letter.
Todd: Right. Because my writing is really bad, and it's hard to read. So, it's embarrassing.
Meg: I'm sure it's fine.
Todd: Yeah. How about you? For example, do you like iron in your clothes?
Meg: I don't like having my clothes, but my clothes usually don't need ironing, so I don't have to worry about it too much. I don't like doing laundry. It's related to ironing clothes. So, it takes a long time. And the clothes, I have to dry the clothes. So, doing laundry is a little bit boring for me.
Todd: I don't mind doing laundry if I go to the coin laundry, but I hate hanging my laundry out. I hate hanging out my laundry. It takes forever. I don't know why, you put it out, you take it back in, it just takes so much time.
Meg: That's funny. I'm kind of the opposite. I don't mind hanging out my laundry, because I like saving money, so I don't have to use money at the coin laundry.
Todd: Plus, you are helping the environment.
Meg: That's true. I like helping the earth.
Todd: Yeah, I should change. Okay. Thanks Meg.
Meg: Yeah.

Abidemi: Todd, are you good at saving money?
Todd: No, I'm terrible. I waste money. I waste so much money.
Abidemi: How?
Todd: Well, I don't buy things on sale. I don't use coupons. I buy anything I see.
Abidemi: So, when I shop, I don't look at prices. I just see the food or the thing and I get it and I buy it and I pay for it. And, then it's sometimes very expensive, so I just waste money. I don't budget. I need to budget my money but I don't budget my money.
Todd: What about you? Are you good at saving money?
Abidemi: I don't think I'm too bad at saving money. I look at prices a lot. I also buy a lot of things on sale, so I'm able to save some money.
Todd: So, you look for discounts?
Abidemi: Yes, I do.
Todd: Do you use coupons or special offers?
Abidemi: No, I don't, but if I see some I will use them.
Todd: So, do you waste money on anything? Like, maybe eating out, buying clothes, renting movies?
Abidemi: I waste money on buying clothes.
Todd: Oh, okay!
Abidemi: But, I save a little bit because I buy them on sale.
Todd: Ah, do you buy things online?
Abidemi: No, I don't. I usually go into the stores to shop.
Todd: I'm good with clothes too, so I don't spend much money on clothes. I only shop maybe once a year. Or, I only shop if I need something, like it's really cold and I need a jacket.
Abidemi: I see.
Todd: And, I'm really bad, so I often only wear clothes people give to me.
Abidemi: That's good!
Todd: Yeah, so I get shirts or ties for Christmas gifts or a birthday gift, and I do that. My mom often asks ... every year, my mom asks, "What do you want for Christmas?", "What do you want for your birthday?"
Todd: And I'll say, "Underwear and socks" or "Socks and T-shirts". And so, she buys them for me and then I don't have to buy them.
Abidemi: Wow. Sounds like you're an easy person to give a present to.
Todd: Yes, for clothes. Yes, for clothes. But, I waste money on computers and electronics and those things are expensive, so I buy a new computer every year. I have four computers now in my house.
Abidemi: Wow.
Todd: I have five mobile phones.
Abidemi: Wow.
Todd: I have an iPad. I have lots of electronic equipment. So, I spend so much money on those things.
Abidemi: I waste money on traveling.
Todd: Ah, yeah.
Abidemi: Every year, I take about one or two trips to different countries, so that's where a lot of my money go.
Todd: Yeah, traveling is expensive.
Abidemi: Yes, yes.
Todd: But, when you travel, do you save money? Do you stay at cheap hotels? Or, do you buy cheap plane tickets?
Abidemi: I try to. I try to all the time. But, usually the plane ticket is so expensive that a lot of my savings is already gone.
Todd: Yeah, I know. I buy my tickets online, usually with Expedia. And, it's cheap. It's pretty cheap. I waste money on food. I eat out almost every day.
Abidemi: Wow.
Todd: Or, I buy my dinner at the supermarket almost every day. Do you waste money on food?
Abidemi: No, I don't. I usually get bored if I eat out too much, because even though I am not a very good cook, there are some thing that I cook that I like to eat. So, I would miss those things. So, no, I don't waste money on eating out.
Todd: Ah, that's interesting. So, you save money, I waste money. You have to teach me your tricks. You have to teach me your tips on saving money.
Abidemi: Please teach me how to get cheap travel tickets.
Todd: It's a deal.
Abidemi: Thanks.

Todd: Meg, I'm going to give you a test.
Meg: Okay.
Todd: It's a personality test.
Meg: Uh-oh.
Todd: And we want to know, are you a pack rat?
Meg: Am I a pack rat?
Todd: Right. Do you save things, do you keep things, or are you a minimalist? Do you have very few things in your house?
Meg: Well, I think I try to be a minimalist, but I'm a little bit of a pack rat.
Todd: Okay. We'll take the test, let's see. Okay, the first question is, how many books do you have in your house?
Meg: Not counting Kindle?
Todd: Not counting Kindle. Physical books, how many books do you have?
Meg: Physical books, I think I have around 15 books.
Todd: Oh. Oh.
Meg: Is that a lot?
Todd: That's bad.
Meg: That's so many?
Todd: Yeah.
Meg: Really?
Todd: So negative-
Meg: Uh-oh.
Todd: Negative ... Boo. Negative one means pack rat [crosstalk 00:00:58] positive one means minimalist. Okay. Next question. How many shoes do you have?
Meg: Can I not answer that question?
Todd: No. You have to say.
Meg: Okay. I think I have 25 pairs of shoes.
Todd: Oh my gosh. I'm giving you negative two points.
Meg: No, just one.
Todd: All right. Next question is, how many blankets do you have?
Meg: Blankets? I think I have 10 blankets.
Todd: Oh my gosh. I knew you were a pack rat. I knew it, I knew it. Now you're negative five.
Meg: But you need blankets for the cold winter.
Todd: You only need one blanket.
Meg: But if you have friends visiting you, you need more blankets.
Todd: Okay.
Meg: I have a lot of friends.
Todd: Wow. That's a good point. Okay, next question. How many umbrellas do you have?
Meg: I think I have around five or six umbrellas.
Todd: Wow. And you live alone, correct?
Meg: Yes. I live alone.
Todd: Okay. So a pack rat is somebody who does not get rid of things they don't need. So, do you need five umbrellas?
Meg: I do need those umbrellas.
Todd: Why do you need ...
Meg: I'll tell you. I'll tell you why. One is a very small umbrella that's easy to carry. Another umbrella is very large for a really rainy day. A third umbrella is decorative and very pretty. The fourth umbrella is for the sun. And the fifth umbrella is clear, to use on a really windy day.
Todd: That's interesting. Now, the fourth umbrella, for the sun, that's called a parasol, correct?
Meg: I guess so, but that sounds a little old-fashioned.
Todd: Okay. I won't consider that. I consider an umbrella for the rain only. So, we'll say four.
Meg: Four.
Todd: So let's just ...
Meg: Do I get a point back?
Todd: You do. But let's do a recap. You are single, you live alone.
Meg: Yes.
Todd: You have four umbrellas.
Meg: Yes.
Todd: You have 10 blankets.
Meg: Yes.
Todd: You have 25 pairs of shoes.
Meg: Correct.
Todd: And you have 15 books?
Meg: 15 books.
Todd: I'm sorry, Meg, but you qualify as a pack rat.
Meg: Oh no.
Todd: You are not a minimalist. We're taking away your minimalist membership.
Meg: Oh. Well I guess I need to get rid of some things, huh? And what about you? Are you a pack rat or a minimalist?
Todd: I'm pretty much a minimalist, I think, because I only have two bags of stuff.
Meg: Only two bags?
Todd: Yeah. So, you can take everything I have and put it in two big suitcases.
Meg: So you don't have 15 books?
Todd: No, I have maybe four books.
Meg: Only four books.
Todd: And they're very small paperback books.
Meg: What about blankets?
Todd: I have one blanket.
Meg: Just one.
Todd: Just one.
Meg: So if visitors come to your house ...
Todd: That is true.
Meg: ... they're out of luck.
Todd: When somebody comes to my house, I ask my neighbor to borrow a blanket. I do. Why?
Meg: You borrow a blanket?
Todd: ... is that funny? Yes. This is-
Meg: Wow.
Todd: I am such a minimalist, my friend told me, he said I am the only person that has ...
Meg: One blanket.
Todd: No. A spoon and a fork.
Meg: A spoon and a fork?
Todd: That's it. I have one.
Meg: Okay. So basically, your house is not prepared for any visitors.
Todd: That's true.
Meg: Whereas my house is prepared for many visitors.
Todd: That's true.
Meg: Okay. Umbrellas?
Todd: I have maybe two.
Meg: Two. So why two?
Todd: Because I can't remember if I have one or I will leave the house and I won't take it, and so then I need to buy one and then...
Meg: And then you get rid of one?
Todd: No, then I just never buy another one. I'm pretty good.
Meg: Oh.
Todd: Only two.
Meg: Okay.
Todd: But shoes?
Meg: Shoes.
Todd: I only have four pairs of shoes.
Meg: What is the purpose of each pair of shoes?
Todd: I have one pair of shoes for work. Nice dress shoes. I have two sneakers, one pair of sneakers for running, jogging, one pair of sneakers for fashion, and one pair of Futsal shoes for soccer. That's it. That's it.
Meg: Wow. Well, I have to say, you really sound like a minimalist.
Todd: Yeah, and you really sound like a pack rat.

Todd: Thai food is so good.
Abidemi: Yes.
Todd: Did you go anymore in Thailand like the beach or the forest?
Abidemi: I was more interested in nature, so I traveled from Bangkok to Chiang Mai and Chang Rai, and I went trekking and rode elephants. So that was one of the highlights of my trip.
Todd: Oh nice. How long was the trek?
Abidemi: The trek was about a day. It was a trek for 2, 3 hours but then we also stayed overnight in a community in the hills. And then the next day, we trekked for a little bit to come back to the city.
Todd: Nice. So was Thailand the first stop?
Abidemi: Yes. It was my first stop. It was supposed to be the shortest stop but I loved it so much that I spent more time there.
Todd: After Thailand, where did you go?
Abidemi: From Thailand, I moved on by land to Laos.
Todd: And what did you do in Laos?
Abidemi: In Laos, I mainly was in the northern part of the country, and I went zip-lining.
Todd: Oh fun!
Abidemi: It was fun. So—
Todd: So zip-lining is going flying from tree to tree?
Abidemi: That’s correct. So that was about two days’ worth of zip-lining, and we stayed overnight in a big tree house.
Todd: Oh, how fun.
Abidemi: It was quite an experience.
Todd: Nice.
Abidemi: I really enjoyed it.

Todd: So Meg, do you live in a house or an apartment?
Meg: I live in an apartment near the train station.
Todd: Oh, you live downtown.
Meg: I do.
Todd: Do you like living downtown?
Meg: I do like living downtown because it's so convenient. Everything is close by, grocery stores, the mall, the station.
Todd: Oh, that's great. So what about your apartment? Do you have a nice apartment?
Meg: It's a nice apartment, but it's really small.
Todd: Oh yeah? How many rooms?
Meg: Well, there are three rooms. But each room is pretty small. There's a bedroom, a sitting room like a living room, and the kitchen room.
Todd: Oh, wow. So in your bedroom, like, do you have a big queen size bed, a small bed?
Meg: I have a small twin size bed or a single bed in the bedroom because it's pretty small. So there's not much space for a big bed.
Todd: All right. So do you have a TV in your bedroom?
Meg: No. Actually, I don't own a TV at all.
Todd: Really? So there's no TV in the living room, too.
Meg: There's no TV anywhere in the apartment.
Todd: Wow. What do you do in your house?
Meg: I have a laptop computer. So usually, I can watch some TV shows or videos on my laptop.
Todd: All right. Okay. Do you like to watch movies in bed?
Meg: Yeah. Sometimes I like to watch movies in bed or sometimes I prefer to sit in the living room and watch movies.
Todd: Right. So you must have high-speed Internet.
Meg: I do. Yes. I have an Internet box that my laptop can connect to.
Todd: Okay. Cool. Do you have a nice big sofa?
Meg: I have two small sofas. So you can push them together to make one big sofa or you can keep them separate. Usually, I keep them separate because there's more room for people to sit on.
Todd: Okay. Now, you like to cook. So you must have a nice kitchen.
Meg: Unfortunately, I have a very tiny kitchen.
Todd: Oh no. How do you cook?
Meg: I have to use some extra tables to have more space. The counter is really small, so there's not much space. So I have an extra table I use for preparing the food.
Todd: Okay. Do you have an oven?
Meg: I have a very small toaster oven. So it's not really an oven.
Todd: All right. So do you have a microwave?
Meg: I do have a microwave and a small refrigerator and one burner, like a stove top burner.
Todd: Okay. Do you cook every night?
Meg: I don't cook every night. Sometimes, I'm too busy. And sometimes because my kitchen is so small, I get a little frustrated. So I just pick up some food from a restaurant.
Todd: All right. Now, you live in an apartment, so how many floors does your apartment building have?
Meg: The building has five floors and I live on the fifth floor.
Todd: Nice. Fifth floor.
Meg: Yeah. The view is nice, but unfortunately, there's no elevator.
Todd: Oh no.
Meg: So you always have to take the stairs.
Todd: Wow. Five flights of stairs.
Meg: Five flights of stairs everyday. But it's good exercise.
Todd: So you're on the fifth floor. Do you have a balcony?
Meg: I have a small balcony where my washing machine is and I can also hang out my laundry out there.
Todd: Oh cool, washing machine is outside.
Meg: It is outside. It's a little different from my house in America.
Todd: So from your view, what can you see?
Meg: I can see the train station from one window and all the restaurants downtown. And from a different window, I can see the mountains.
Todd: Oh nice. Yeah, the mountains are nice.
Meg: Yeah, it's really pretty.

Todd: Why did you go to Belize?
Meg: I went to Belize on a study trip for school, and I stayed there for about two weeks.
Todd: Okay. Now, does Belize have good food?
Meg: Belize also has good food. There was a family that cooked for us and we had a lot of delicious almost Mexican type food.
Todd: Oh really? So for example, what do you eat? Like, what do people eat in Belize?
Meg: People eat – it's kind of like a taco but flat with a tortilla, and some meat and vegetables on top and some spices that make it really delicious.
Todd: So the last country is Indonesia. When did you go to Indonesia?
Meg: I actually went to Indonesia just last year.
Todd: Oh wow. How long did you stay?
Meg: I only stayed there for about a week.
Todd: Oh yeah? Oh, short trip.
Meg: Yeah, it was a short trip, but I was just visiting some friends there.
Todd: Where did you go?
Meg: I went to Jakarta and Bali.
Todd: Oh, okay. So I hear Bali has really beautiful beaches. Is it true?
Meg: Yeah, it's true. There are a lot of famous and beautiful beaches in Bali.
Todd: Oh, did you surf in Bali?
Meg: I've never surfed before. Usually, when I went to the beach, I just wanted to put my feet in the water.
Todd: Oh yeah. Now, Bali also has very famous scenery on the inside like the rice fields. Did you see the rice fields of Bali?
Meg: No, I didn't see the rice fields. But I did go to some famous historical spots.
Todd: So of the three countries – Spain, Belize and Indonesia – what country was your favorite?
Meg: Maybe Spain was my favorite because I love learning language and it was really nice to stay with my Spanish family.

Naomi: Yeah mostly indoors - in the summer sometimes outdoors.
Dai: Oh OK, sounds good. Yeah so, you can only bounce it once?
Naomi: Yeah, there’s three different passes you can do. One is you use a bounce called “bounce pass” and you can only use a bounce once.
Dai: OK, to pass it to your teammate.
Naomi: Yeah.
Dai: OK, and what are the other passes?
Naomi: There’s “chest pass”.
Dai: And what’s that?
Naomi: It’s just a straight pass from your chest to the other person’s chest.
Dai: Oh OK.
Naomi: And “shoulder pass” which is sort of a lob.
Dai: Like a lob, you throw it over your shoulder kind of thing. And so, it’s just...well like basketball somebody throws it in the net and how many points do you get?
Naomi: It’s one point for every net - every ball that you get in the net.
Dai: Oh OK. and how long is a game of netball?
Naomi: Probably about an hour.
Dai: Oh really? So like half an hour each side or...?
Naomi: Yeah, I think so.
Dai: OK, and how many people are there on a team?
Naomi: Seven.
Dai: Seven?
Naomi: Yeah.
Dai: OK, nice.

Diego, Mexico
The best way to learn English is to go abroad, live in that country for a while, get used to the culture, and make friends. I think socializing is the best way to learn a new language.
Christophe, Belgium
What is the best way to learn English? I think the best way to learn English is to talk with native speakers, speakers who have English as their mother tongue, but the real best way to learn English is if you have an English boyfriend or girlfriend because that really makes you learn English a lot faster.
Aiste, Lithuania
I think the best way to learn English is to speak with people in English and try to communicate in English as much as you can, and the next thing I think is to listen to the news and TV and native English speakers and do it as often as possible.
Santi, Indonesia
The best way to learn English. First, you watch movies. A lot of movies, foreign movies, well, English movies would be the best, and you can choose the movies. That's the first thing you have to do, and then second of all, you can learn vocabulary, the other best thing to learn English is having conversations with a native speaker, because you can improve your pronunciation.
MJ, Korea
I think I will meet many foreigners and make foreign friends because not only studying a book and reading books and correcting grammar is important, but facing real natives is one of the most important to improve your English skills.
Katia, Mexico
The best way to learn English I believe is actually to go to a country where they speak English. You will pick it up very fast. There is no other way around. You have to learn or otherwise you will be somewhat outside of society, so the best way to learn is by being around people that speak English.

speakerYes, I enjoy cooking, especially with my sister because I prepare all the things, but she will wash. That's our agreement, and I like to cook with the simple ingredients, less than five because it will take little time.
Tom, U.K.
speakerI absolutely never cook. I used to cook when I was in university, but I never got very far with it. It was boring, and I have a microwave and a kettle in my apartment and that's it, and I would never cook for another person.
George, U.S.
speakerDo I enjoy cooking? Yes, I do. Ever since I started to live on my own, I've really started to enjoy cooking, of course I don't like the dishes. My record is one month actually of not doing the dishes, so of course not after doing the dishes for about a month, there's a really interesting smell that starts to develop.
Buddhi, Sri Lanka
speakerDo I enjoy cooking? Well, I don't really enjoy cooking cause I'm not a very good cook. Well, I like to try new things, and like to experiment in cooking, but I don't really enjoy. I like baking and I like trying new things out, but not particularly cooking.
David, Kenya
speakerDo I enjoy cooking? Yes, I do enjoy cooking, especially when I have free time on the weekends. I live with my flatmates and we cook together at times. We cook ethnic foods from Africa. That's where I come from, Kenya in particular, and yeah, I enjoy cooking.
Hanna, Australia

speakerI was in a typhoon in Hong Kong, and I just arrived with a big heavy backpack, and I had to hide in a telephone box while the street flooded and the water came up around me.
Jess, U.K.
speakerNatural disaster? No, I haven't been been in a natural disaster. Unfortunately I was very close to a bomb which went off in Manchester when I was about sixteen years old, which was quite scary, but probably not as scary as a tsunami or a typhoon or something.
George, U.S.
speakerOh, yes, yes. I have been in a natural disaster. I forget what year but Hurricane Yuniki in Hawaii, but I lived on Ohau so we got the eye of the hurricane so it wasn't like harsh at all. In fact, I remember when it hit, I remember telling my parents, I wanted to go out and fly a kite because it looked so nice outside, so it wasn't really that bad of an experience for me.
Pernais, Jamaica
speakerYes, I have. I've been in a fire. A really big one actually. It was just very scary. There was just smoke everywhere, and I couldn't see anything. My eyes were hurting. I was choking, and I really thought I was going to die, but I was rescued by an old man passing by.
Mike, Singapore
speakerOK, have I been in a natural disaster? Well, I've actually seen one happen while I was driving, and this was along I think the coast. I think it's called the Pacific Ocean Highway, if I'm not wrong. Anyway, there was in December 2004 I think, it was ... there was a big landslide during a the raining season in Los Angeles, and while I was driving I actually saw it, and then I didn't know what was damaged, but it was all over the news, and then it was bad.
Doron, U.K.
speakerYeah, actually, I was staying with friends in Norway and we were camping and we got hit by a blizzard and it was really frightening, but luckily I was with some big Viking Norwegian guys, and they knew exactly what to do, because I didn't. It was really ... you couldn't see anything. It was so white and the snow was so heavy and it actually hurt quite a lot, and it didn't help that it was absolutely freezing.

speakerI don't like shopping very much. I'm not into all this walking around department stores looking at stuff, choosing things. I'm a tall guy and so it's really hard for me to find clothes that fit so shopping is really not pleasant.
Santi, Indonesia
speakerWell, I really, really enjoy shopping. That's why ... a week I could spend about four time to go to the department store, especially when there is a bargain or sales, and since my house is near one of the biggest department store, it's about five minutes by car, so, well, if we want to have lunch together we go to that department store, and after that we go shopping.
Lia, Indonesia
speakerI go shopping quite a lot. Recently, maybe three to four times a week, but what I buy is usually daily needs such as fruit or food but not clothes or things like that.
George, U.S.
speakerHow often do you go shopping? Well, recently I don't really go shopping at all. Maybe only once a year. I remember in high school though I used to go shopping probably once a week. I used to be one of those spoiled little rich kids that would get that would get anything they wanted, but again moving out on my own, I've discovered a hundred dollars for a t-shirt is not a good deal, and yeah, I think I'm a little bit of a better person for it.
Jess, U.K.
speakerI go shopping maybe about two times a week. I really enjoy shopping, and where I live there are lots and lots of clothes shops open after I finish work, so often when I leave work on my way home I find myself wondering into shops and picking things up and trying things on. I love shopping.
Mike, Singapore
speakerHow often do I go shopping? I like to do my shopping on a weekday because I don't like crowded places, and so I do my shopping usually on Mondays or Tuesdays, but for buying groceries, I like to do my shopping on Fridays.

Edwin, Australia
speakerAm I a good dance? No, I am a terrible dancer. If you talk about break-dancing, I would actually break something, if I went to a club, I'd stay at the bar more. Although, friends have tried to teach me a bit of moves, or some moves, I am still just very terrible at it.
Jess, United Kingdom
speakerYes, I am a good dancer. I love dancing. I love music. That's a big stress release for me, to go out and dance the night away, and I love getting dressed up in dancing clothes and high heels and sparkles and glitter.
David, Kenya
speakerAm I a good dancer? Yeah, I think I am, depending on the person I am dancing with, yeah, I think I'm a good dancer and I love dancing. I've loved dancing since I was a kid, and I still do. I don't think I am going to stop anytime soon.
Chrystal, United States
speakerI consider myself as an Okay dancer, I guess. I've been working out these days and I think my favorite way to work out is to close all the curtains and just blast out my favorite songs and just dance in my room, but I won't let anybody see it except for my cat.
George, United States
speakerA good dancer? Well, that depends. Are you talking about real dancing or Dance Dance Revolution the video game, because I am a monster at Dance Dance Revolution. Real dancing not so much though.
Hana, Australia
speakerI'm not a very good dancer. I'm very uncordinated, so whenever I try to dance, I know what I want to do in my mind, but as soon as I try and do it with my hands, it just looks completely different.

speakerDo I worry about my appearance? Yeah, I do. In high school I didn't worry about it at all, but I don't know, coming to college, I really became self-concious about my image and I tried to reinvent myself in a way, so yeah.
Aiste, Lithuania
speakerI don't think I really worry about my appearance because I don't have much time to worry about my appearance, and I don't consider it that important, but maybe sometimes I'd like to spend some time on it.
Enam, Bangladesh
speakerActually, I don't worry about my appearance but sometimes when it goes beyond the limit then I had to because everyone is a social being and it's different when it looks good and it's different when it looks bad. I think I lose my confidence when I look bad.
Jess, England
speakerYes, I do. I wish I didn't but I do. I spend quite a lot of time shopping, choosing clothes, doing my hair, fixing my make-up, getting my nails done, so yeah, I spend quite a lot of time on my appearance.
Christophe, Belgium
speakerWell, actually, I don't really worry about my appearance. I'm already telling myself to go to the hairdresser's for two months, and I still didn't go, so maybe I should worry a little but more because my hair really looks awful right now.
Chrystal, United States
speakerI don't. I think I'm OK. I used to be really worried when I was a kid cause, I don't know, like, I've been called four-eyes when I was in school by boys and I used to be bullied, but right now I sort of like my glasses, and I sort of like my appearance, so I'm not that worried anymore.

Diego, Mexico
speakerI would rather break up with someone because I like to be in control of things, so if someone breaks up with me, I wouldn't be in control of things, so that would change the status quo, and yeah, I would like break up with that person instead of that person breaking up with me.
Lia, Indonesia
speakerI would rather have someone to break up with me because I know that if they break up with me, I can handle it quite good I guess, but if I break up with them, I just don't want to hurt their feelings.
Christophe, Belgium
speakerI think I would prefer to break up with someone because if somebody breaks up with you, you just feel horrible. You feel like you're worth nothing, and you're completely alone in the world, so I would prefer to take the initiative by myself and not feel so bad about it.
Katia, Mexico
speakerI would rather have somebody else to break up with me, but then of course, the situation, if it's different, and I have to do that step, then I'm willing to do that.
Tom, U.K.
speakerI would rather have someone break up with me than break up with someone else because after you break up, people are always asking you, why? what happened? And if you can blame it on someone else, rather than making it look like you were the bad guy, it's so much easier.
Jess, U.K.
speakerOoh, that's a tough question. I think either way. If you break up with someone or they break up with you, it's not a pleasant experience, so I can't answer that. I'd rather not break up with anyone at all.
Answer the following questions about the interview.
1) Diego prefers to be ______ . a

Lindsay / United States
speakerI definitely would rather rent my own home because right now I can't imagine myself settling down and being in a permanent place for a long time. I haven't lived in one place for more than three years in the last ten years, so it's really hard for me to imagine actually owning my house and staying in there for the rest of my life.
Chris / England
speakerI think it's better to own a home. I know that it's always a big investment. You know, you have to pay a lot of money up front, but I think it's important to think of it as like a long term benefit that's going to provide you with some security when you choose to sell, or when you retire. You're gonna have somewhere to live.
Maiko / England
speakerI prefer to own a home, even though at the moment I rent an apartment, I would very much like to own a home so I can have my own garden and grow plants that I like.
Amir / Iran
speakerI believe that owning a house or owning a home is always better because land prices is something stable and most probably it will become more expensive so getting a loan and trying to own a house is much better than paying money for the rent, which goes nowhere.
Lori / Canada
speakerI would say it's better to own if you possibly can because otherwise you're just throwing money away if you're renting but I also think it's important not to tie up all your money in a home. You should enjoy yourself in other ways and not become 'house poor' as they say.
Eoin / England
speakerAt this stage in life, I think I would rather rent a home because I wouldn't want to be tied to being on one place for a long period of time. Later in life, I can imagine thought that I would like to own a property somewhere.
Answer the following questions about the interview.
1) Lindsay ____ her own home b
a) wants to own
b) can not imagine owning
c) used to own
2) Chris thinks it is best to ____ a home. b

b) never
c) always

a) tie up your money
b) throw your money away
c) not become house poor
6) Eoin would rather ______ currently. c
a) own a home
b) lease a home
c) rent a home
Amir / Iran
speakerIf marrying early means the age of thirty, I don't think so because my parents got married after thirties and they're having a happy life and for male, especially maybe there are not necessarily obliged to marry early because their circumstances are different from the women because they have to give birth, maybe it's better for them to get early ... before they're 30 ... if they want to give birth, I mean. Yeah. Thank you.
Lori / Canada
speakerI don't think early or late really comes into the question. I think you should get married when you have found the right person and you're really sure that this is someone you want to spend the rest of your life with.
Eoin / England
speakerI think it's probably better to marry later in life, though possibly that's influenced by the fact that both of my parents married at a later stage in life. The reason I think that is because it allows you to really discover who you are and to do a lot of the things that you would want to do while you're young.
Aki / Japan
speakerI'm 27 right now I don't consider if I marry now, I don't consider marrying early so, I guess marrying late is better. You get more experience and ideas. What marriage is. You get to maybe find the perfect guy for yourself so I'd rather marry late.
Chris / England
speakerI think you should marry when you're older, but I don't think that means that marrying when you're younger is necessarily a bad thing. I just think, when you're older you understand more about yourself. The person you marry ... you know ... you should be able to imagine that this is the person you're going to live with for the rest of your life, and when you're young, maybe you don't know what that the rest of your life is going to be, so when you're a little bit older you can perhaps see that and you know, find someone who's the best match for you.
Maiko / Japan
speakerI used to believe that marrying young is better than marrying later in life, but now that I married later, I think it was a good decision to do whatever you want to do when you are young and you have experienced things you couldn't have done if you were married so I'm really happy to be married a little later in my life.

Warren / Canada
speakerYeah, I think I'm not very good at keeping clean. My wife is always getting upset that I'm leaving things out on the counter in the kitchen, or leaving my clothes in the bedroom in the wrong place, and I definitely have to improve those habits.
Gareth / England
speakerYeah, I procrastinate. This means to kind of put stuff off. I often leave really important things until the last minute. I know I've got this bad habit, and I try to fight it by making to-do lists and stuff like that. But it's still a part of me that I really, really can't shake off.
Katia / Mexico
speakerYes, I do have some bad habits. One that I can talk about is when I see somebody, sometimes I tend to judge the person too quickly. And I think that's a very bad habit.
Matt / United States
speakerI probably have a very bad habit of not cleaning up after myself. I don't care much for cleaning, and I think a lot of my things around the house.
Sarah / England
speakerMy biggest bad habit is wasting money. I often eat out just for the sake of eating out. I often buy something just for the sake of buying it, and I will probably never use it after I buy it, but you know, I have to have it. So, wasting money is a big problem of mine.
Tim / United States
speakerI have a bad habit of sleeping too much. I have very poor will power, so if I'm even the slightest bit tired, I'll usually lie down and take a nap, but that makes it very difficult for me to wake up in the morning and take care of school or whatever I have to do during the day. And then, I also stay up too late, and it just makes things more difficult with everything that I do.

Anita, Taiwan
speakerWhat junk foods do I eat? I like potato chips, chocolates, candy bars but these days because of diets though I don't usually eat a lot, but of course during the party with my friends we always buy lots and lots of junk food and we'll finish in an hour. Actually I like it, but I'm controlling myself right now.
Mitchell, United States
speakerThe junk food I tend to eat is gummy bears because I like, like the gummy kind of candy, gummy bears, sour patch kids, but I don't think I eat too much junk food because I don't eat too much cake, chocolate, cookies, and the dairy product section, so but if I had to pick a junk food that I eat the most, it's sweets like gummy bears, starbursts, skittles.
Ruth, England
speakerHow much junk food? Well, actually I try really hard not to eat junk food. I try to go for a long time without eating crips and chocolate and cakes, but often I tend to ignore that and eat them anyway. I think it goes in phases. For a long time I'll not have any and then for a week or two weeks I will eat cake, cake, cake, chocolate, crisps, all of the time, so maybe, certainly at those time I eat too much. The rest of the time, no, I think it's OK.
Lucinda, New Zealand
speakerI don't eat junk food, sweet junk food, so I'm actually lying, I don't eat sweet junk food. I like McDonalds breakfast, but any other things to do with junk food I'm not really partial to. I like cholate occasionally, but very bitter chocolate. I quite like eating cooking chocolate bars.
Alan, Canada
speakerWhat junk food do I eat? Well, I enjoy pototo chips and chocolate and cookies. I'm actually what you call a junk food fanatic. I enjoy eating junk food. I try not to eat too much of it. I used to eat more of it when I was younger, but I've kind of trimmed it down a little bit, and I got older, how ever, I still enjoy a good bag of potato chips while I watch TV, or a chocolate bar occasionally, after lunch or dinner, so I would say. I enjoy junk food but I try now to eat too much of it.
Mark, America
speakerActually, I don't eat a lot of junk food, but I try to keep pretty healthy with what I eat, but if I slip and I do eat any food that's not healthy it's usually fast food. Like I almost never eat at McDonald's, but if I'm really hungry, or I'm really broke and don't have a lot of money, or I just want something fast, I might sneak into a McDonalds, once every two weeks or something like that.

Kate, New Zealand
speakerBetween cats and dogs I definitely prefer dogs. Although cats are very cute, but dogs also, I like to be active. I like to run around the lawn and take them for walks, and actually, the dogs are more like a little kid, and I actually have a dog. I own a dog in New Zealand and every day I take him for a walk and feed him just like my own little child.
Tres, United States
speakerLet's see, cats or dogs. I think I would prefer a dog over a cat and the reason being, cats make me sneeze, and they make my eyes itch, whereas dogs I'm not too allergic too. On the other hand, dogs have personality. Cats seem to be a bit smarter at times, more like humans but I think a dog is a lot more fun to be around, plus, you know, if you're ever in a time of need, a dog may save your life, where a cat will just watch you die.
Ruth, England
speakerCats or dogs, that's a good question. Well, I think I would have to say cats because although I like both, cats are more independent and they can find their own food and they don't need to be taken for walks, and generally they're less needy, so I think I would say cats.
Jim, England
speakerI prefer dogs to cats because I think they're loyal and always pleased to see you. I think cats are a little bit selfish, but I have to say I've never had neither. I've only had a tortoise.
Eucharia, Ireland
speakerI think cats are better pet than dogs because cats don't need to be minded. You don't have to worry about feeding a cat, walking a cat. A cat is independent and will walk itself, so um, also they don't require as much training as dogs so they're a much nicer pet I think.
Alan, Canada
speakerI prefer cats. Cats are clean, quite, low maintenance animals. You feed them. You let them out once in awhile. You give them attention, and they're happy. I used to have a cat and I was quite happy with it.

Akane, Canada
speakerWhat is one job that you would hate to do? Well, I suppose one job that I would really hate to do is to be a homemaker, and I know that this is a very important job, and a very respectful one, but I don't think it's for me. I really get irritated when I stay at home for long periods of time, and I know that many homemakers do go out, but, and I really do like making my own money, and that's something that's really important to me.
Barbara, Australia
speakerOne job that I would really hate to do would be to be a salesperson. Having to convince people to buy something, probably which they don't need, and they can't afford. I would really hate to do that. If my income depended on selling, I think I would probably starve.
Naomi, Australia
speakerOne job that I wouldn't like to do is a office job, completely in the office, all the time, 9 to 5, five-days-week office job. I think I would get really bored after a short amount of time, and I would probably need a bit more excitement in my life out of my job.
Simon, Canada
speakerYeah, hi, what job couldn't I do? I think to sit in an office cubica and do data entry on a computer would be something that I hate the most because the lights are usually florescent. You're crunching numbers all day, everyday with no creativity, no energy, yeah.
Mark, United States
speakerAh, one job I would hate to do is I would hate to be a garbageman, a garbage collector. I just, ah, it's gross, it stinks. I don't wish that job upon anybody basically so, that would be my last choice for occupation.
Ruth, England
speakerOne job I would hate? Oh, yeah, that has to be a vet. I would absolutely detest that job, because primarily I would get really emotionally involved with all of the animals and then if any of the animals died I would cry and cry and, yeah, I would hate having to see people upset because their cat was ill. No, I associate that as being a really awful job, and I have real respect for people who do it.
